AZGT, Apache Station recognized by ADEQ for environmental stewardship
Employees and directors of Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, the power generation and transmission arm of Arizona G&T Cooperatives, were proud to receive recognition recently from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) through its Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program.
AEPCO and its Apache Station earned the program's Bronze award in October, and ADEQ staff formally presented the award in May. According to the ADEQ website, "The Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program (VESP) recognizes and awards incentives to Arizona businesses and other organizations that have a good history of environmental compliance and strive to go beyond what is legally required to protect public health and the environment."
Michelle Freeark, AZGT's executive director of regulatory affairs and corporate services, and Mike Nelson, AZGT's executive director of power production, accepted the award on behalf of their teams, alongside AZGT Executive Vice President and CEO Patrick Ledger and AEPCO board president Kathy Thatcher.
“AEPCO is appreciative to ADEQ for recognizing AEPCO and our employees for the superior work that is done day after day at Apache Station to maintain excellence in environmental compliance," Freeark said. "Our managers and employees at the plant work very hard to keep environmental programs a high priority, which is integral to our business of providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric energy and supporting our communities.”
