AEPCO’s transmission maintenance team checks out a new Versalift bucket truck at AzGT’s Benson campus.

AEPCO line crewmen replace a three-pole wooden structure on the Pantano-New Tucson line with a single, self-supporting steel pole.
New steel structures greatly enhance reliability.
Installation of new steel structures requires months of design and planning.
Each pole support foundation must be exactly level.
AEPCO’s line crew replaces wooden structures along the Apache-Redtail line west of Willcox.
The steel structures must be in place before the crew can remove the wooden structures, seen behind the lineman in the bucket.

Transmission crews install marker balls to warn pilots away from power lines.
While it’s the responsibility of pilots to be aware of transmission lines, bright new line markers increase visibility.
